This module is as per POEA Governing Board Resolution No.05 and Memorandum Circular No.12 series of 2009. This course is designed to increase awareness among seafarers on the measures that could be employed to avoid, deter or delay piracy attacks to ships in order to minimize the danger to the crew and ship, in the event of pirates’ attack.
This course utilized the published materials by the International Maritime Organization particularly MSC.1/Circ.1337 dated 4 August 2010 which pertains to the “Best Management Practices to Deter Piracy…” otherwise known as BMP3. Other sources of relevant materials are those developed by groups of international organizations and data collected by naval forces’ experiences in dealing with the threat is also of great value to this course.
