More than just a yearend party

The StarOcean Seafarers Christmas Party 2018, was not just a Christmas celebration of the company but also a thanksgiving for the seafarers and their families as well as industry partners for the continued success in working and achieving together.

During the event, Vice President for Crew Affairs Ms. Angie Hartmann and Crew Director Mr. Alexander Tsitsonis, both of Star Bulk S.A., expressed their appreciation for the seafarers’ hardwork and dedication, as well as for the families’ support.

For his part, Mr. Tsitsonis presented a number of highlights and milestones that Star Bulk and StarOcean accomplished for the year 2018. Among them is the agreement for the acquisition of 38 bulk carriers which increased the group’s bulker fleet by more than 40%, and expanded the total number of vessels owned or managed by the group to almost 150 by early next year.

Mr. Tsitsonis also noted the growth in the number of onboard personnel, which exceeded the benchmark of 3,000 seafarers onboard at all times. He further remarked that 90% of the group’s seagoing personnel are Filipino seafarers.

Another milestone for 2018 is the group’s compliance with IMO’s global Sulphur limit regulation, which represented a massive strategic project, leading to the group’s future operational advantage.

Mr. Tsitsonis then underscored that the group’s accomplishments were made possible through the dedication and efforts of ship and shore-based personnel. He concluded his message by expressing commitment to continuous growth and maintaining the group’s stature as “the gold standard of the maritime industry.”

After the messages, VIPs and special guests were acknowledged and introduced by Capt. Michalis Polemis, Owners’ Representative of StarOcean, together with StarOcean President Ms. Vivian Novenario-Ongpin, who also welcomed the guests in her opening remarks. Guests were then treated to a sumptuous dinner buffet, while projector screens flashed photos of moments at the party, as well as minor raffle winners.

A major part of the program was the presentation of 2018 Service Awards. Star Bulk and StarOcean executives spearheaded the presentation of service plaques and tokens of recognition to personnel who have dedicated their significant and productive years to the company. Other highlights of the celebration were musical entertainment provided by the Powerhouse Band, as well as raffle draws wherein lucky winners were given fabulous prizes. Truly it was an event worth remembering, an evening of celebration and thanksgiving.
